Change of Shift-NEW11 copyThe dreaded code blue! Contrary to what most believe…. Hollywood definitely gets this one wrong.

I’ve been doing this job for over ten years, and I still remember that first time. That first code. How unbelievably scary it was. I remember sweating bullets. And all I wanted to do was disappear into the far wall.

Maybe if I don’t say anything, nobody will know I’m there??

The great news? Everyone feels this way during their first patient cardiac arrest. It’s scary, it’s overwhelming and it’s  a stiff dose of  reality. Everyone also lives through it to try again.

Just like everything else in our career, this too gets better each time you experience it. You become more comfortable, and you become more proficient.

Let me tell you about my first code blue.
